On April 5th, 2024, members of the Detroit Armenian community gathered at St. John's Armenian Church in Detroit, MI to hear a presentation about the the latest developments in Armenia, focusing on the plight of refugees after Azerbaijan's ethnic cleansing of Artsakh in September 2023. The event was co-organized by the Detroit Armenian Women's Club, Armenian Renaissance Association, Detroit’s Tekeyan Chapter, and the "Knights and Daughters of Vartan" Zabelle Chapter.
The featured speaker was Dr. Antranig Kasbarian, the Foundation's Trustee & Development Director. Dr. Kasbarian presented the ongoing challenges faced by Armenia in the aftermath of the conflict, and provided an analysis of the current geopolitical situation. He also discussed the Foundation's plans to resettle Artsakh villagers in Syunik, serving to help integrate them into Armenian society and to help revitalise rural Syunik. The presentation was followed by a lively and informative Q&A session, where Dr. Kasbarian shared first-hand information on the situation and discussed the Foundation's initiatives to assist our compatriots from Artsakh.
In appreciation for the organizers' efforts and support, Dr. Kasbarian presented each with two books: "Armenia and Its Borders" by Rouben Galichian, offering a comprehensive look at Armenia's historical borders and their evolution; and "Unfinished War" by David Ghahramanyan, which chronicles the 2020 war between Azerbaijan and Artsakh, along with the subsequent blockade and ethnic cleansing.
